Introducing UK Recycling’s Hydration Station

As we move towards a more environmentally friendly conscious future, the University of Kentucky is proud to announce the introduction of a portable hydration station on campus, a move aimed at reducing waste from disposable cups and plastic bottles at events.

Following the successful implementation of hydration stations during the fall 2023 Big Blue Move-in, UK Recycling has invested in one hydration station available for any campus event on a first-come, first-served basis. This initiative marks another significant step in UK’s journey towards becoming a zero-waste campus.

The hydration station is not only environmentally friendly, but also economically accessible. The station is a 4-spigot water dispenser that comes with a stainless-steel table-top with a built-in shelf and a stainless-steel cooler. It is completely free for any registered student organization to utilize. For all other event hosts, there will be a nominal fee for setup and teardown.

To reserve the hydration station for your event, simply visit UKY EMS (Event Management System) and secure your spot. Additionally, for those looking to make their events eco-friendly, UK Facilities Management offers a Green Event Guide packed with sustainability tips and practices.

We believe that small steps lead to big change, and the introduction of hydration stations is one example of our community’s commitment to sustainability. By choosing reusable options over single-use plastics, we can collectively reduce our environmental footprint and create a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
