Do You Want a Sustainability Certification?

Do you want a career that makes you feel good about going to work in the morning? How about a career that makes a difference in your community?

If you answered yes, you aren’t alone! Working in the sustainability industry is an attractive pathway for people who want a career that reflects their values and lets them create positive change. Sustainability careers are very diverse and can be found in almost every industry, meaning anyone from a music major to an engineering graduate student can find their place. Thankfully, the number of sustainability-focused positions is growing, as businesses and other organizations realize that they need to manage their environmental and social impacts.

UK students now have an opportunity to become more competitive when applying for these positions while supplementing their coursework. The Sustainable Enterprise Training Fund was created through a partnership between the Student Sustainability Council and the Master of Business Administration Student Association with the goal of equipping UK students to become sustainability leaders in the Commonwealth and around the world. The fund will provide up to $400 for students to pursue highly sought-after credentials in the sustainability field, including:

  • LEED Green Associate
  • Global Reporting Initiative: Introduction to Sustainability Reporting and the GRI Standards
  • Sustainability Accounting Standards Board: Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting
  • International Society of Sustainability Professionals: Sustainability Excellence Associate
  • Other certifications to help students meet their specific goals

Applications opened November 1st and will be reviewed on a rolling basis through the end of the school year or once the funding has been fully allocated to students. Interested students should apply soon to take advantage of the funding so they can add to their expertise and resumes as soon as possible.

Employers in Lexington, Kentucky, and around the world need people who are passionate and knowledgeable about how to create a better future, and this training will help UK students be the best candidates to meet this need. The link to apply can be found HERE.
