UK Recycling has introduced a rewards program to incentivize use of their Oscar AI waste sorting system. Last Spring, UK Recycling unveiled Oscar, a technology which identifies the user’s waste and instructs which container to place it in, providing instant feedback on what is recyclable at UK.
Each time a user sorts their waste with Oscar, they will have a chance to win several prizes. There’s no sign-up or log-in required. The rewards system operates on a lottery system where winners will be chosen at random, so the more you interact with Oscar, the more likely you are to win!
Winners will be able to choose three items to start building their zero-waste toolkit. Prizes include a reusable coffee cup, a reusable cutlery set, Green-To-Go container, tote bag, tire gauge, metal straw, water bottle, and a clothing mending kit. The prizes are provided in partnership between UK Recycling, Dining, and Sustainability.
UK Recycling hopes this will encourage students, faculty, and staff to learn more about what is recyclable at UK and move UK one step closer to becoming a zero-waste campus. You can find Oscar inside the Gatton Student Center at the bottom of the social stairs and The 90 beside Fresh Food Company.
