UK Transportation Services is pleased to share information about a valuable shuttle service available through Foothills Express for members of the University of Kentucky community who commute from or through Clark County.
The Foothills Express shuttle provides convenient, comfortable and reasonably priced shuttle service which can ease the burden of commuting while saving money on gasoline and vehicle wear and tear. Foothills Express is not affiliated with the university, but is a nonprofit community action agency funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and operated by Kentucky River Foothills Development Council Inc.
The shuttle service runs from Winchester to the campus, Monday through Friday.
Tyler Burris, director of Foothills Express, said his organization is seeking additional riders who live in the Clark County vicinity and are interested in the daily transportation service. The van leaves Winchester from a central location between 6:45 and 7 a.m. and picks employees up for the return trip home between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m. This shuttle option may be an ideal fit for employees who work a 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift.
Leah Carpenter, a practice manager at UK HealthCare, said she’s been riding the shuttle for 10 years and enjoys the ability to relax, read or catch up on work during the commute. Plus, she says the “value is amazing.”
“I’ve just had a good experience with it,” said Carpenter. “I like not searching for a parking space and getting dropped off at the front door. It also saves me a tremendous amount of money on gasoline.”
Current drop-off locations are Kentucky Educational Television, Veterans Administration Hospital, UK Chandler Hospital, Kentucky Clinic and Good Samaritan Hospital. However, Burris said that other drop-off locations can be added, if necessary.
Riders are billed monthly for the service. The daily 45-mile round trip from Winchester to UK takes approximately 40-45 minutes each way.
