UK’s Energy Club is a group of students who are passionate about making a difference in the world, starting right here with the University’s community.
With sustainability in our back pocket, our main goal is to save energy. The motto “Keep fueling innovation for a brighter tomorrow and spreading positive energy” exemplifies our passion as a club and is shown in everything we do.
In collaboration with LG&E/KU and the University administration, we are bringing level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers to Cornerstone Garage! Our hope is that by installing EV chargers on campus, it will reduce range anxiety for our current EV drivers and spur the necessary reimagining of our vehicle infrastructure that will encourage more people to drive electric.
This work is an integral part in helping the University achieve its Emission Reduction Plan – did you know that EVs and PHEVs (plug in electric hybrids) in all-electric mode produce no tailpipe emissions?
Fueled by our success in bringing the chargers to campus, the club is now undertaking an initiative to bring solar powered picnic tables to campus. These tables will give the campus community the ability to socialize as well as another workspace, as the tables include charging outlets for phones, laptops, iPads, etc. These tables will be completely free to use and placed in North, Central, and South campus.
As we finalize our current campaigns, we are excited to see what the future holds for our club, and are especially interested in your feedback! We hope to continue to bring positive energy and fuel the innovation and switch towards sustainable practices here at UK.
