Throughout your life, how many times have you relaxed, walked, or laid under a tree? Probably, and hopefully, a great number of times! Trees are instrumental to the health of planet Earth and the health of human beings. They purify the air by absorbing carbon dioxide, help with stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces, and give wildlife a place to call home while simultaneously giving us refreshing shade and gracing our eyes with their beauty. Trees are nature’s greatest artists—painting the sky with their branches, sculpting the earth with their roots and inspiring us to create in turn.
Resiliently Rooted is an art contest and showcase that will take place April 2025. Initially inspired by Earth Month, this urban and community forestry themed art show highlights how trees and green spaces shape our urban environments, foster community, and inspire creativity. Wherever possible, artists are encouraged to implement sustainability into their creation. The Lex Center for Creative Reuse is highly encouraged as well as the use of eco-friendly materials.
Let your inspiration flow and your creativity shine by applying! Categories are limited to:
- Paintings and Drawings: two-dimensional pieces such as drawings,
paintings, collage, print-making, and more. - Sculpture 3D Art: three-dimensional pieces such as sculptures, ceramics,
textiles, fiber arts, and more. - Photography: a photograph captured by a digital camera, smartphone, or
other device.
The submission window will close on April 1st, 2025.
Winners of the art contest will receive monetary prizes payable through VISA gift cards.
- 1st place: $300 prize
- 2nd place: $200 prize
- 3rd place: $100 prize
While the showcase is open to the public for submissions, only UK students can apply for the art competition within Resiliently Rooted. Both sets of submissions will be displayed together. Contest winners and artists that are selected will be later contacted for submission drop-offs. LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE.
